PRICE — The Region 18 Tournament concluded tonight with a bang and host College of Eastern Utah on the men's side winning the title and on the women's side North Idhao College defeated favorite Salt Lake CC. Both teams will advance to their respective NJCAA postseason tournament.
Men's Tournament
Facing another tough opponent set the stage for another big victory by the College of Eastern Utah.
The Eagles upset sixth ranked North Idaho 88-80 in the Region 18 tournament on Saturday night to claim the 2010 SWAC championship. The Eagles (22-9) never trailed in the second half after staking out a 37-31 halftime lead. CEU will play in the district championship game at Taylorsville on Tuesday for the chance to secure an NJCAA Tournament berth.
On the women's side,
The Salt Lake Community College women’s basketball team lost to North Idaho College 86-76 in the championship game of the Region 18 tournament. Salt Lake fell behind 15 at half time and closed the gap to four points with two minuets left in the game but was unable to mount the comeback. The Bruins finish the season with a record of 26-6 overall.
Haley Holmstead finished with 21 points, Dayna Burgess scored 10 points with nine assists and Sheila Adams had 13 points. Adams and Burgess were both named to the All Tournament team and freshmen Haley Holmstead was named SWAC player of the year.
